Position Overview:
The HIV Program Specialist 1 role at CAN Community Health is an entry-level opportunity within our Education & Prevention Team, dedicated to delivering essential program services such as HIV/STI testing, health education, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:
As an HIV Program Specialist 1, your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting HIV/STI/Hepatitis C testing along with pre- and post-test counseling in both clinical and community environments.
  • Documenting testing procedures accurately in both electronic and paper records as required.
  • Providing education on Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to clients and assisting them in navigating the PrEP program.
  • Representing CAN Community Health at community outreach events, offering health education and testing services.
  • Distributing condoms to community members and partner organizations.
  • Collaborating with various disciplines to coordinate client services and address community needs.
  • Ensuring client confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
  • Maintaining and operating the mobile testing unit as necessary.
  • Documenting and managing records related to grant efforts, including time tracking.

Additional Responsibilities:
In addition to the primary tasks, you will also:

  • Engage in professional development to enhance your knowledge and skills related to HIV/STIs/Hepatitis C.
  • Maintain necessary certifications for service provision as mandated by local health authorities.
  • Support the development of new partnerships and agreements within your designated region.
  • Represent CAN Community Health at relevant conferences and meetings.
  • Prepare and distribute HIV home test kits while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
  • Conduct online health education through various platforms to reach a broader audience.
  • Participate in special projects and other assigned duties.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A High School Diploma.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a related field is preferred, although relevant college coursework may substitute for experience.

Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • A self-motivated and autonomous work ethic.
  • Familiarity with community health services and agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and effective behavioral interventions.
  • The flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to:

  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Occasionally exert up to 25 lbs. of force and frequently exert up to 10 lbs. of force.
  • Communicate effectively through spoken word and possess visual and auditory acuity.
