Position Overview:
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is a key department responsible for overseeing all ground transportation within the city. The agency manages various aspects of public transit, including the Municipal Railway (Muni), as well as parking, traffic, and pedestrian services.

About the Role:
The Transit Division is embarking on a significant initiative to develop and implement a modern Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. This innovative project aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of the transit network.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Junior Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in supporting the Train Control Upgrade Project. Your primary duties will include:
  • Reviewing engineering designs and documentation submitted by the CBTC Supplier.
  • Facilitating systems integration between the train control system and various components, such as switch machines and vehicle detection systems.
  • Assisting in software integration efforts with other technology systems, including CAD/AVL and asset management systems.
  • Contributing to civil engineering design tasks, including the creation of electrical schematics and plans for necessary infrastructure.
  • Participating in design reviews and technical coordination meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Monitoring construction progress and ensuring compliance with design specifications during testing phases.
  • Assisting in the development of installation and testing plans to ensure project success.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates should possess:
  • A minimum of three years of professional engineering experience in relevant fields.
  • A Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in California in civil, mechanical, electrical, or related disciplines.

Desirable Skills:
We are looking for candidates with:
  • Experience in train control or signaling systems.
  • Technical writing skills and the ability to prepare detailed specifications.
  • Familiarity with project management software and engineering design tools.
