Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Official to join our team at the City of Lancaster, TX. As a key member of our Development Services Division, you will be responsible for overseeing the building inspections process and ensuring compliance with local building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of the Building Inspections Division, including supervising staff and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Administer and enforce building codes, ordinances, and regulations, and ensure that all necessary permits are issued and inspections are conducted.
  • Select, train, and motivate personnel to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Develop and administer the annual budget for the Building Inspections Division, and ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
  • Coordinate with developers, architects, engineers, and other City departments to ensure that building projects are completed in accordance with local regulations and codes.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from the public, and mediate and resolve conflicts and complaints in a fair and impartial manner.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as architecture, engineering, or urban planning.
  • At least one year of experience in building inspections or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications such as Certified Building Official, Texas State Plumbing Inspector License, and ICC Building Inspector Certification are highly desirable.
  • A valid Class C driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
