Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.

DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:

The Elections Department oversees elections, nonpartisan voter accountability advocacy, and voter registration across our four states. The department is tasked with developing and implementing voter engagement strategies in partnership with all departments to build long-term electoral power in working-class: Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CASA in Action seeks a proactive, well-organized, and empowering individual to lead the implementation of our direct voter engagement programs. The Voter Engagement Coordinator will work with the Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager to build and maintain a strong team of canvassers to increase voter participation within working families and immigrant communities through direct voter engagement work.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing leaders within their team and engaging registered voters and voting-eligible community members in utilizing their civic rights to bring about real people-powered political movements. They understand voter engagement best practices and issues working families and immigrant communities face. They have a proven ability to network and communicate information to others effectively, are committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing input or quality, and demonstrate a deep commitment to racial equity.

The Lancaster Voter Engagement Coordinator, based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, reports to the Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct Voter Engagement

  • Lead implementation of daily ground operation work for your assigned canvass team,
  • Meet with Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager daily to discuss ground operation plans and provide constructive feedback on scripts, canvassing turfs, and voters’ responses to campaign messaging,
  • Lead all canvass launches and debrief meetings with the assigned canvass team to disseminate daily goals and program updates,
  • Engage voters daily to persuade and mobilize them to vote by/or on Election Day,
  • Share important voting information effectively,
  • Collect photo and video content while engaging with voters and share with Communications staff to lift the voices of impacted voters,
  • Enter and report conversation data accurately and on time, and
  • Stay well-informed of the latest electoral news and campaign talking points, including issues impacting communities and candidate views on those issues

Team Supervision

  • Lead your team in meeting daily program metrics and team-building goals through coaching and providing constructive feedback on their voter conversations,
  • Assign your team the necessary canvassing equipment and supplies needed to complete their daily work,
  • Monitor on-field progress toward goals, including knock and conversation rates, using information shared by the Quality Management Coordinator,
  • Track each canvasser's hours worked and report them in the timesheet,
  • Respond to all on-field emergency and non-emergency incidents that may occur and report immediately to the Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager,
  • Motivate your team to collect photo and video content while engaging with voters.

Additional Tasks

  • Assist the Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager with canvasser recruitment and conduct pre-screen interviews with recruits to provide the Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager with recommended canvassers for final interviews,
  • Report low equipment and supply inventory to the Pennsylvania Voter Engagement Manager,
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are results-oriented, and have strong communication skills. You should have:

  • Ability to perform all of the duties outlined above,
  • A valid US Driver’s License and own car are required,
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends,
  • Experience working with immigrant or low-income communities is a plus,
  • Ability to work with a team and independently,
  • Self-motivated with a track record of displaying leadership, building team morale, and excellent interpersonal skills,
  • Exude high energy in a fast-paced environment,
  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles,
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets to perform data entry and other basic computer-related tasks, a plus but not required,
  • Attention to detail to ensure all work is polished, accurate, and precise,
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred,
  • Commitment to social change and to furthering CASA in Action’s mission of building power in working-class: Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities by integrating and engaging them in the political process, and
  • Previous management experience is a plus but not required.
