Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Official to join our team at the City of Lancaster, TX. As a key member of our Development Services Division, you will be responsible for overseeing the building inspections process, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations, and providing leadership to our team of inspectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the building inspections process, including scheduling and conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Supervise and train a team of inspectors, providing guidance and support to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Develop and administer the annual budget for the Building Inspections Division, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
  • Collaborate with other City departments and divisions to ensure that building permits and inspections are processed efficiently and effectively.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from the public, developers, and other stakeholders regarding building codes and regulations.
  • Mediate and resolve conflicts and complaints related to building inspections and code enforcement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as architecture, engineering, or urban planning.
  • At least one year of experience in building inspections or a related field, with a strong understanding of building codes and regulations.
  • Certifications such as Certified Building Official, Texas State Plumbing Inspector License, and ICC Building Inspector Certification are highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
