Job Description and Worker Characteristics

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To work as a team member of the MCJDC Title I program, the Title I Teacher's Aide will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in data collection and analysis
  • providing proper progress reports to Program Manager in an organized and appropriate manner
  • provide instructional support to MCJDC teachers
  • assist the teachers in implementation of age and level appropriate academic instructional activities and appropriate related instructional activities to help meet the youth's IEP and education goals
  • maintain youth records and reports as required by the Program Manager;
  • maintain contact with home school districts
  • present a positive professional image as a representative of the Multi County Juvenile Detention Center
  • supervise youth and work independently with them
  • provide academic assistance and intervention for youth aged 10 - 17
  • assist in creating an environment for student learning so as to increase each student's ability to become independent readers and writers
  • assists in instruction and seeks assistance from teachers, as needed
  • be familiar with Title I state and federal requirements
  • establish and maintain effective channels of internal and external communications
  • abide by all administrative rules and regulations as defined in the MCJDC Policy and Procedure Handbook
  • perform all other duties as assigned by Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a Teacher's Aide Certification

Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License

Must be able to pass required background check, including drug screen, prior to employment;

experience in providing intervention support to students as a classroom teachers aide; experience with at-risk students preferred.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a Teacher's Aide Certification; Certified in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (upon employment).

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other related duties as assigned; attends in-service training; must possess a valid Ohio driver's license; demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; maintains annual training requirements for teacher's aide certification; provides assistance and support in developing program, policies, rules, regulations and guidelines for the Center.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITES: (* indicates developed after employment) Knowledge of: center policies, procedures and regulations*; building and grounds security and safety procedures*; counseling principals and practices; suicide prevention principles and practices; emergency response techniques; educational principles and practices; safety and security policies and procedures; individualized prescriptive program content, development, and implementation; basic child and adolescent development.

  • prepare and deliver programs, demonstrations, and lectures
  • develop individualized lesson plans for students;
  • recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action;
  • prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports;
  • define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
  • physically restrain a resident as needed using approved and appropriate physical restraint techniques;
  • assist in obtaining grants and other funding resources to maintain and enhance quality educational programming for the center.

Skill in: Use of modern office equipment including computer, unarmed self-defense techniques; verbal de-escalation.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION: (The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive)

Computer, modern office machines, VCR, television, two-way portable radios.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be required to drive in adverse weather conditions; must be able to lift or move

objects weighing up to 25 pounds; may be exposed to violent youths or youths under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs; may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids; may be required to intervene in fights; may be exposed to contagious or communicable diseases.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.25 - $18.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
