Job Summary

Sovah Health - Danville is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Specialist to lead our laboratory's clinical chemistry department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical oversight, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate test methodologies for clinical use based on the laboratory's scope of care and customer needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop practice guidelines and improve new or existing processes to prevent reoccurring problems and promote customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain specialty knowledge in technical areas to collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, nursing staff, and other customers on appropriate use of medical technology.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper functioning of laboratory equipment, and compliance with applicable federal regulations.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance criteria.
  • Perform competency assessment according to Laboratory Competency Assessment protocol.
  • Identify training needs and develop in-service and educational programs based on current needs, new policies or procedures, or on problems identified during supervisory review or competency assessments.
  • Determine, coordinate, and supervise daily staffing assignments and levels.
  • Provide direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
  • Perform or assist with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Assess and ensure quality of services delivered and facilitate staff development programs.
  • Ensure staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required. Graduate of a Program in Medical Laboratory Science required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns, including weekends and holidays.
  • Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) certification required.
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification required.
