Position Overview:

SOVAH Danville is looking for a full-time Laboratory Technical Supervisor to lead and provide technical guidance in a designated area of the laboratory, such as Transfusion Services, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Clinical Microbiology, Histology, or Cytology across all shifts. This role involves managing personnel, including hiring, onboarding, training, competency maintenance, performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary actions when necessary.

  • Ensures accurate patient and specimen identification prior to any procedures.
  • Assesses, selects, and implements suitable testing methodologies for clinical applications based on the laboratory's scope and client needs; collaborates with relevant staff to establish practice guidelines.
  • Employs quality assurance or process improvement strategies to enhance existing processes, aiming to prevent recurring issues and promote customer satisfaction throughout all analytical stages.
  • Maintains specialized knowledge in technical areas to collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, physicians, nursing personnel, and other stakeholders regarding the appropriate use of medical technology.
  • Develops and executes quality control programs to guarantee the reliability of testing procedures, proper operation of laboratory equipment, and adherence to applicable federal regulations; maintains relevant documentation.
  • Addresses technical challenges and ensures that corrective actions are documented whenever testing systems deviate from established performance standards.
  • Conducts competency assessments in accordance with Laboratory Competency Assessment protocols.
  • Identifies training requirements and creates in-service and educational programs based on current needs, new policies, or issues identified during supervisory reviews or competency assessments.
  • Determines, coordinates, and oversees daily staffing assignments and levels.
  • Provides direction, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff members.
  • Participates in performance evaluations and disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Evaluates and ensures the quality of services provided and facilitates staff development initiatives.
  • Guarantees staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Performs staff duties as necessary to meet required service levels.
  • Leads the resolution of complex issues and complaints.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
  • Graduation from a Medical Laboratory Science program is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently are essential.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high-pressure environment and take appropriate actions is necessary.

Flexibility in scheduling is required, with the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous care and appropriate laboratory coverage for patients at SOVAH Health Danville across all units.

Required Certifications/Licenses:

  • Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is required.
