Position Summary

Versar, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Security Architect to provide expertise in support of the DHS Homeland Security Enterprise Network (HSEN) within the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). This role involves collaboration with a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing cybersecurity measures across DHS enterprise and headquarters networks.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Enhancing and advancing network and security capabilities, including the integration of modern technologies.
  • Offering technical guidance for the design, construction, and enhancement of network and security infrastructures.
  • Ensuring compliance of network security architecture with established security standards and federal guidelines.
  • Providing performance engineering and network management support, utilizing tools and technologies endorsed by DHS IT Operations.
  • Guaranteeing the operational availability of security tools and infrastructure from the perimeter to the endpoint.

Core Responsibilities

  • Developing and refining security tool architecture for monitoring security operations.
  • Creating a strategic three-year roadmap for security architecture aligned with DHS objectives.
  • Documenting design specifications for a team of Security Engineers, Architects, and Tools Engineers.
  • Designing and implementing cybersecurity technologies while integrating new architectural features into existing systems to uphold the integrity and security of enterprise-wide networks.

Additional Duties

  • Facilitating the integration of security processes, controls, and technologies into technical solutions with a standardized approach.
  • Addressing anomalies identified during security assessments while ensuring compliance with certification and accreditation requirements.
  • Providing security engineering and subject matter expertise for hardware, software, and networking technologies.
  • Conducting market research and product evaluations for various software and networking technologies.
  • Coordinating operations of all software and networking technologies.
  • Performing operations and maintenance on software tools and networking infrastructure.
  • Creating and maintaining standard engineering design documentation and test plans.
  • Developing comprehensive diagrams illustrating the configuration and flow of all solution components.
  • Testing security features of products being acquired by DHS stakeholders.
  • Implementing a robust capacity management plan for security tools.
  • Designing and maintaining continuity of operations for security tool systems.
  • Creating custom signatures and security feeds for integration with the government's security information and event management (SIEM) system.
  • Providing application support for event forwarding on non-security devices.
  • Developing and maintaining operational concepts, system design documents, and role-based access control documentation.
  • Creating data flow diagrams detailing system ports, protocols, IP addresses, and network segmentation.
  • Deploying and integrating security system components according to a detailed implementation plan.
  • Offering architectural guidance on network security, engineering, and application integration.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on government-identified security technologies.
  • Offering system support during emergencies as needed.
  • Creating and deploying custom reports and dashboards using tools such as Splunk and Grafana.
  • Enhancing the portfolio of security monitoring and administration tools.
  • Ensuring compliance with operational requirements, including disaster recovery strategies for security tools.
  • Recommending configuration management practices and verifying compliance with DHS guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in cybersecurity and security solution architecture.
  • Experience in U.S. Federal government consulting is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently on diverse projects that enhance security processes and operations.
  • Prior experience within the Department of Homeland Security or similar government agency is preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a DHS Entry on Duty (EoD) are required.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Advanced degrees in relevant fields may be considered for additional experience.

Desired Software/Hardware Experience

  • Familiarity with tools such as Swimlane and Splunk is advantageous.
