Job Overview

Position Summary

Versar, Inc. is in search of a Senior Security Architect to provide expertise in supporting the DHS Homeland Security Enterprise Network (HSEN) within the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). This role involves collaborating with a dedicated team focused on enhancing cybersecurity measures to fortify DHS enterprise and headquarters networks. The selected candidate will engage with a diverse group of network and security engineers, data center specialists, industry vendors, and various DHS stakeholder groups encompassing over 20 DHS Components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance and sustain network and security capabilities, integrating modernization and emerging technologies.
  • Deliver technical guidance for the design, construction, and enhancement of network and security systems.
  • Ensure compliance of network security architecture with established security standards and federal guidelines.
  • Provide performance engineering and network management support, utilizing tools and technologies from DHS IT Operations.
  • Guarantee the operational availability of security tools and infrastructure from the perimeter to the endpoint and data.

Core Duties

  • Develop and advance security tool architecture for monitoring security operations.
  • Create a strategic three-year security architecture roadmap aligned with DHS requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive design documentation for the team of Security Engineers, Architects, and Tools Engineers.
  • Design and implement cybersecurity technologies, integrating new architectural features into existing infrastructures while ensuring the integrity and security of enterprise-wide cyber systems and networks.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the integration of security processes, controls, and technologies into technical solutions with a standardized approach.
  • Address anomalies identified during security testing, ensuring compliance with certification and accreditation standards.
  • Provide security engineering and subject matter expertise for various hardware, software, and networking technologies.
  • Conduct market research, product evaluations, and support for a range of software and networking technologies.
  • Oversee the operations of all software and networking technologies.
  • Perform operations and maintenance on software tools and infrastructure devices.
  • Create and maintain standard engineering design documentation and test plans.
  • Develop diagrams illustrating the complete configuration and flow among all solution elements.
  • Test security features of products acquired by DHS stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain a robust capacity management plan for security tools.
  • Design, implement, and maintain continuity of operations for security tool systems.
  • Develop custom signatures and security feeds for integration with the government's security information and event management (SIEM) system.
  • Support application installation of event forwarders on non-security devices.
  • Produce and maintain Concept of Operations (CONOPS), System Design Document (SDD), and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) documentation.
  • Create and maintain Dataflow Diagrams, detailing systems, ports, protocols, IP addresses, and network segmentation.
  • Deploy and integrate security system components per the detailed Implementation Plan.
  • Provide architectural guidance on network security, engineering, and application integration.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on government-identified security technologies.
  • Offer system support during emergencies for application administrators.
  • Generate and deploy custom reports and dashboards using tools like Splunk and Grafana.
  • Enhance security monitoring and administration tools portfolio, incorporating modernization and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with operational requirements, including disaster recovery strategies for security tools.
  • Provide recommendations for configuration management and compliance with DHS guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in cybersecurity and security solution architecture, systems analysis, design, or development.
  • Experience in U.S. Federal government consulting is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of projects and tasks to enhance security processes, tools, and operations.
  • Previous experience within the Department of Homeland Security or similar government agency is preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with eligibility for a DHS Entry on Duty (EoD).

Education

  • BA/BS in a relevant field; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • Advanced degrees beyond the minimum requirement may be considered for additional experience.

Desired Software/Hardware Experience

  • Familiarity with tools such as Swimlane and Splunk is a plus.
