JOB TITLE: Associate Research Scientist

Location: Seattle, WA (100% Onsite)

Duration: 12 months initial (potential extension/potential right to hire)

Key Qualifications:


• Proven expertise in HPLC/UPLC methodologies.


• Proficient in nanoparticle characterization techniques including DLS, MALS-FFF, NTA, and encapsulation efficiency assessments.


• Experience with mammalian cell-based assays featuring flow cytometric analysis.


• Familiarity with ELISA techniques.


• Knowledge in the downstream purification processes of biological entities (AKTA, chromatography, TFF, viral filtration, etc.).

The Associate Scientist will be a vital member of the Gene Delivery and Editing Process Development (GDEPD) team, contributing to the analytical development necessary for the production and characterization of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and related process residuals, essential for advancing innovative cell therapies.

This role involves collaboration within the LNP Platform Development team, focusing on initiatives aimed at enhancing next-generation LNP platform capabilities, particularly in gene editing. The associate will develop proficiency in analytical assays for LNP characterization while gaining insights into LNP process development methodologies. Additionally, the position offers exposure to a variety of gene editing technologies, encouraging collaborative efforts across diverse process development teams.

Responsibilities:


• Execute and troubleshoot analytical assays for LNP characterization (HPLC/UPLC, DLS, fluorescence-based methods, etc.).


• Assist in designing and evaluating new analytical development assays for LNPs.


• Establish protocols for analytical methodologies.


• Manage sample flow, data, and analytical processes.


• Optimize workflows for assessing LNP characteristics.


• Engage in lab maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.


• Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory documentation.


• Summarize and present findings in team meetings, contributing to discussions and strategic planning.


• Author technical reports, protocols, and study documentation.

Basic Qualifications:


• STEM degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience; title and compensation will align with education, experience, and skill set.


• Extensive experience with HPLC/UPLC.


• Familiarity with nanoparticle characterization techniques.


• Self-motivated with strong teamwork capabilities.


• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.


• Ability to utilize literature and resources for problem-solving.


• Enthusiasm for advancing innovative technologies.


• Growth mindset with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:


• Degree in biological or chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.


• Experience with mammalian cell-based assays and ELISAs.


• Knowledge of downstream purification of biological molecules.


• Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques.


• Familiarity with LNP production and purification processes.
