We are seeking a driven Associate Research Scientist to thrive in a dynamic Product Development environment, applying robust scientific methodologies to establish a platform process for mRNA production.

As part of the Gene Delivery and Editing Process Development (GDEPD) team, the ideal candidate will have substantial experience in the downstream process development of biological molecules, particularly with nucleic acids.


The Associate will also gain insights into mRNA analytical techniques and their relevance to mRNA characteristics and functionality in gene editing.

A successful candidate will utilize purification principles and biochemical techniques to advance our next-generation gene-edited therapies. This role involves producing, purifying, and characterizing mRNA molecules to facilitate comprehensive ex vivo studies.


The responsibilities include using recombinant enzymes for mRNA production and functionalization, employing AKTA systems for mRNA purification through various chromatography methods, utilizing TFF for further purification and formulation, and applying HPLCs and other biochemical analytical methods for characterization.

An exemplary candidate will be motivated by a commitment to create, optimize, and define processes efficiently within a collaborative framework.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Generate purified mRNA materials
  • Conduct and troubleshoot IVT and downstream process development experiments
  • Oversee the flow of samples and data with downstream mRNA users
  • Assist in experimental design and data interpretation
  • Actively engage in lab maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain precise and comprehensive laboratory records and documentation
  • Summarize and present findings in group meetings and contribute to discussions
  • Draft technical reports, study memos, and protocols

Basic Qualifications:
  • STEM degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience; title and compensation will be aligned with education, experience, and skill set
  • Proficient in the downstream purification of biological entities (AKTA, chromatography, TFF, viral filtration, etc.)
  • Familiarity with molecular cloning, PAGE, and agarose gel techniques
  • Experience in handling, storing, and analyzing purified nucleic acids
  • Self-motivated with the ability to collaborate effectively
  • Strong communication skills for oral presentations and technical writing
  • Ability to utilize literature and resources to solve problems and innovate

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in biological or chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field
  • Experience with JMP for design of experiments (DoE) and analysis
  • Familiarity with IVT of mRNA, including successful transfer for GMP manufacturing
  • Knowledge of recombinant nucleic acid processing enzymes
  • Experience in interpreting qPCR, HPLC, NGS, and mass spectrometry data
  • Proven ability to interact and collaborate with vendors
