We are seeking a dedicated Associate Research Scientist to contribute to a dynamic process development environment, applying rigorous scientific methodologies to establish a platform for mRNA production.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in the downstream processing of biological molecules, particularly with nucleic acids.

Additionally, the Associate will become acquainted with mRNA analytical techniques and their relevance to mRNA characteristics and functionality in gene editing applications.

The successful candidate will utilize purification methodologies and biochemical techniques to advance our innovative gene-edited therapies. Responsibilities include the production, purification, and characterization of mRNA molecules to facilitate comprehensive ex vivo studies.

The Associate will employ recombinant enzymes for mRNA production and functionalization, utilize AKTA systems for mRNA purification through various chromatography methods, and apply TFF for further purification and formulation of mRNA. The role also involves using HPLCs and other biochemical analytical methods for thorough characterization.

An exemplary candidate will be motivated by a passion for creating, optimizing, and defining processes efficiently within a collaborative setting.


Core Responsibilities:
  • Generate purified mRNA materials
  • Conduct and troubleshoot IVT and downstream process development experiments
  • Oversee the flow of samples and data with downstream mRNA users
  • Assist in experimental design and data interpretation
  • Actively engage in lab maintenance and continuous improvement efforts
  • Maintain a precise and detailed laboratory notebook and documentation
  • Summarize and present findings in group meetings and contribute to discussions
  • Draft technical reports, study memos, and protocols

Basic Qualifications:
  • STEM degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience; title and compensation will be aligned with education, experience, and skill set
  • Hands-on experience in the downstream purification of biological substances (AKTA, chromatography, TFF, viral filtration)
  • Knowledge of molecular cloning, PAGE, and agarose gel techniques
  • Experience in working with, storing, and analyzing purified nucleic acids
  • Self-motivated with the ability to collaborate effectively
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Adept at utilizing literature and resources to address challenges and innovate new technologies

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in biological or chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field
  • Experience with JMP for design of experiments (DoE) and analysis
  • Experience with in vitro transcription (IVT) of mRNA, including successful transfer for GMP manufacturing
  • Familiarity with recombinant nucleic acid processing enzymes
  • Experience in interpreting qPCR, HPLC, NGS, and mass spectrometry data sets
  • Experience in vendor interaction and collaboration
