Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW) is a non-profit founded in 1970 to help meet the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. LSS-SW fulfills a mission to provide services that:

  • STABILIZE during times of crisis,
  • BUILD self-reliant foundations, and
  • PRESERVE dignity and respect.
LSS-SW serves over 5,000 Arizonans each month Metro Phoenix, Tucson and southern Arizona in the areas of Refugee Services, Aging & Disability Services, Family Services and Emergency Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

WEIGHTDESCRIPTION40Client Services:
  • Conduct an intake assessment and orientation with clients eligible for RCA services.
  • Collect all proper immigration documents and determine eligibility within 30 days of entry into Arizona.
  • Verify enrollment in other programs prior to enrollment in RCA services.
  • Initiate RCA enrollment for all eligible clients in the Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program Database (ARRPODS).
  • Upload all eligibility and other requirement documents into ARRPODS.
  • Inform RCA client's employment specialist and case manager of RCA approval and enrollment.
  • Request an RCA payment card for enrollees upon approval.
  • Assist clients with receiving and activating their cards and support them with any issues they might face in accessing their cash assistance benefits.
  • Conduct monthly check-in meetings to assess the client's continued eligibility.
  • Document all interactions and services through case notes in ARRPODS.
  • Complete RCA case closure processes in ARRPODS upon completion of the RCA program or based on eligibility.

Comply with all reporting requirements, including entering case notes and file and database maintenance.
20Collaborate with co-workers to address client needs and provide trauma-informed, strengths-based services to clients through coordination and effective communication. 5Maintain an established work schedule, including a high level of self-direction and responsibility. May include State and National travel.5Follow internal protocol immediately with regard to safety, health, and the environment of the member and employee workspace and workplace equipment.5Attend all required trainings and meetings.5Present a professional attitude and wear professional attire at all times.5All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, sociology or a related field required. Four years of related education or social service experience, preferably working with refugee or immigrant populations, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for a Bachelor's Degree.
  • At least two years of case management experience, preferably with refugee and/or immigrant populations, preferred.
  • Previous experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations.
  • Provide and maintain, or be able to obtain, a current Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card, clear the Department of Economic Security Central Registry Background Check and a criminal background and motor vehicle screening; must maintain valid AZ Driver's License, a clear driving record and reliable transportation for the duration of employment.
  • Ability to work independently with high initiative.
  • Ability to travel to throughout the state or nationally as requested by supervisor
Language Skills:
Individual must have the ability to speak, read and write English. Ability to speak another language, preferably a language spoken by recently-arrived refugees, preferred. Ability to listen and perceive needs non-judgmentally and work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate information, draw conclusions, and take appropriate action based on this information.
