Primary Purpose:

Support campus Homeless Liaisons, counselors, and administrators to monitor and facilitate access to campus educational and support services for students experiencing homelessness to increase attendance, academic achievement, and high school graduation rates. This position is Title I funded.

Education/Certification Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED, and
  • One of the following:
  1. Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) of college coursework or an applicable number of semester hours as defined by the institution of higher education attended, whichever is less;
  2. Possess an associate (or higher) degree; or
  3. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a local academic assessment-
    1. Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
    2. Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
  • Additionally, within one year of being hired, Title I, Part A paraprofessionals must have the Educational Aide state certification.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Skilled in working with and presenting to diverse populations of students, parents, and community members
  • Proficient in keyboarding, data entry and retrieval, and file maintenance
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with others
Experience:

Some experience working in a school setting

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Collaborate with campus Homeless Liaisons to monitor and support students experiencing homelessness
  • Provide information to students experiencing homelessness and their families on school policies, procedures, and available resources as appropriate
  • Communicate with campus administrators and counselors when a student experiencing homelessness is experiencing attendance and/or academic concerns
  • Conduct needs assessments for students experiencing homelessness with attendance and/or academic concerns and help facilitate access to relevant information and support services
  • Monitor attendance patterns, identify potential supports/strategies to reduce barriers to regular school attendance for students experiencing homelessness who have excessive absences
  • Collaborate with campus counselors to ensure students and parents experiencing homelessness understand CSISD graduation requirements
  • Identify homeless students at risk of not graduating on time and collaborate with campus counselors and administrators to establish and monitor appropriate interventions
  • Collaborate with district transportation, nutrition, and counseling departments to facilitate access to available services and supports
  • Coordinate with school staff to ensure that homeless students have access to necessary educational materials and technology.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, agencies, and businesses to expand support services available for students experiencing homelessness
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to services provided, student progress, and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports on program activities, outcomes, and effectiveness for school administration, district officials, and funding agencies as required
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times
