Position Overview: The Pennsylvania State University is seeking an Engineering Support Specialist within the Characterization and Testing Department. This role is essential in facilitating various research initiatives within the Materials Design and Optimization Division.

Key Contributions: You will work collaboratively with a team of engineers to enhance and refine materials for diverse research undertakings. Your involvement will be crucial in the advancement of ceramic, metallic, polymeric, and hybrid structures through a variety of testing methodologies, including mechanical, electrical, corrosion, and thermal assessments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the fabrication and evaluation of hardware within the research facility.
  • Engage with engineers and principal investigators to support project goals.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain thorough documentation of results.
  • Participate in the design and assembly of testing apparatus.
  • Address and resolve mechanical and electrical equipment challenges.
  • Provide training to students and staff on the operation of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications: Candidates should possess an Associate's Degree in a technical discipline along with a minimum of four years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include proficiency in Microsoft Office, a solid understanding of materials and structures, and familiarity with advanced testing instruments.
