ROLE OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Academic Counselor role within the Morgan Academic Center (MAC) is essential for supporting student-athletes' academic journeys. Reporting directly to the Associate Director for Football Academic Support Services, this position plays a vital role in ensuring that student-athletes achieve their academic goals while adhering to institutional standards.
The key responsibilities of the Academic Counselor include:
- Overseeing the academic support and guidance services for designated football student-athletes, including monitoring their academic performance and eligibility status.
- Providing updates on student-athlete academic progress to coaching staff and athletic administration, as well as to the MAC Director.
- Facilitating a section of the first-year seminar course designed specifically for student-athletes.
- Connecting student-athletes with relevant university resources as needed.
- Engaging with prospective student-athletes and their families during the recruitment process.
- Executing additional tasks as directed by the Director and Associate Director.
- Availability for evening and weekend commitments is required.
Qualifications and Experience:
This position is classified as an Intermediate professional role, necessitating a Master's degree in fields such as counselor education, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or a related area, along with a minimum of one year of pertinent experience.
Compliance with NCAA and Big Ten Conference regulations is mandatory. Required clearances include: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
