Title: Family Engagement & Partnership Liaison

Salary Schedule Range: 40

Purpose of Position: The Family Engagement & Partnership Liaison serves as a liaison between school site personnel who provide strategic and intensive student services and the student and families who are in need of those services. This position is responsible for implementing a comprehensive family education and leadership program that is aligned to the District's Framework for Family Engagement and Effective School Partnerships to bolster our family-school partnerships and improve student outcomes.

Reports to: Assigned supervisor, typically a school principal

Employment Status: Full Time (FLSA Non-exempt), 10 month work calendar.

Accountability
  • Understand and apply the Dual-Capacity Building Framework for Parent-School Partnerships (Mapp, 2019) as it informs SBUSD's Framework for Family Engagement and Effective School Partnerships) to all aspects of planning, preparing and carrying out the work of this position.
  • Assist the administrator in planning, organizing, and coordinating of state mandated parent advisory committee functions and activities.
  • Participate in the administration of parent surveys, making sure to do so in effective ways that take into account the favored modes of communication of various families.
  • Assist in the development of parent & educator education materials.
  • Prepare reports and maintain electronic records on program activities.
  • Maintain consistent attendance.
Communication
  • Attend school meetings between parents, students, teachers and other staff as necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison between community resource agencies and the school.
  • Correspond and collaborate with with the District Family Engagement Unit (FEU)
  • Conduct home visits under the direction of school administration or student services staff.
  • Assist parent organizations and community members in understanding program goals and objectives, and help them gain a greater understanding of educational procedures, issues, and concerns.
  • Perform a variety of services to interface with members of the community and inform them of school programs and services for families.
  • Coordinate language access services (e.g. translation and interpretation) using SB Unified's Language Access Guidelines.
Culture and Climate
  • Promote positive interpersonal relationships among peers, staff, students, parents/guardians, andthe public and promote respect for various backgrounds and experiences.
  • Organize, implement and coordinate learning modules, workshops and training sessions to help educators and families build capacity.
  • Support activities to increase parental involvement and recruit parent volunteers.
  • Assist in developing volunteer activities, including coordinating parent leaders, room parents, volunteers, etc.

Other Functions:

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of procedures, methods, techniques, and strategies utilized in the development of school and community liaison programs.

Knowledge of multilingual and multicultural programs, and the purpose, goals and objectives of public education.

Ability to perform routine clerical and record management functions.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions or work direction. ?

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with District staff, site administrators, and members of parent organizations.

Ability to operate a computer, tablet and proprietary or mass market software and applications.

Skill in resolving sensitive school and community problems, issues and concerns.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Indoor work environment. Some travel between District schools and facilities. Some home visits.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; sitting for extended periods of time; walking; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; intermittent bending, stooping or reaching overhead to retrieve or store materials; occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 20 pounds; driving a vehicle to conduct business activities.

Experience and Education:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying, such as: two (2) years of college-level coursework, and two (2) years of verifiable experience of paid or volunteer work in the community with culturally, ethnically and socio-economically diverse populations, preferably in a school district setting.

Additional Requirements:

Successful passage of the district's Spanish bilingual proficiency assessment at Level II

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License

Experience working with parents in multicultural programs and services

College level education or equivalent work experience
