Position: Lead Classroom Behavioral Specialist

Location: Portland Kids Academy

Compensation: Up to $25/hr depending on education & experience.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, School Day Hours

Portland Kids Academy employs certified and experienced educators, clinicians, and educational technicians to lend support when needed while focusing on specially designed instruction and behavioral support for daily success.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

WHEN SUB COVERAGE IS NEEDED:

  • Provides substitute BHP coverage for absent BHPs, particularly with high needs/high priority clients;
  • Independent comprehension and implementation of behavior plans, treatment plans, and data tracking;
  • Teaches coping skills, social skills, and behavioral skills to clients;
  • Clear and professional documentation of all services provided in accordance with CFK standards and state of Maine licensing requirements and program policies and procedures;
WHEN SUB COVERAGE IS NOT NEEDED:
  • Assists in training BHPs in acquisition and implementation of Safety Care, ABA, systems, and other job related skills while adhering to the treatment goals closely;
  • QA's client sub binders and materials;
  • Oversees accuracy of weekly Note Logs from BHPs and assures billing receives these logs in a timely manner;
  • Assists BHP's in developing professional boundaries, self-care, and crisis support skill.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ensures fidelity to Safety Care technique and philosophy;
  • Upholds clear professional boundaries at all times;
  • Follows mandated reporter requirements for abuse and neglect of any client and others;
  • Attends all CFK meetings that are necessary;
  • Communicates daily with supervisors and clinicians;
  • Attends professional trainings and workshops to meet requirements of state and CFK;
  • Other duties as agreed upon by supervisor.
  • On occasion, may need to transport client in personal vehicle.
EXPECTATIONS
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance, to be verified regularly;
  • Must be able to successfully complete all phases of pre-service training and on-going training as required by state and CFK policy;
  • Must be able to work in occasionally high pressure, high stress and physical environment. Position may experience verbal and /or physical aggression from client population;
  • Computer literacy, organization and solid writing and editing skills are essential;
  • Possess independent problem solving skills and be willing to seek assistance and guidance when needed;
  • High level of accuracy, organization and detail orientation required;
  • Must possess strong communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Ability to work as a team player;
  • Creative and caring; and able to be sensitive to a wide variety of cultural and socio-economical attributes and environments;
  • Able to be organized and to prioritize workload;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Self-motivated.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • BHP Certification;
  • 4 year college degree required;
  • CPR, FA and Safety Care required;
  • Experience working with children with mental health challenges;
  • DOE fingerprints and Ed Tech III Certification required.
