Position Summary:

The role of the special education behavior support paraprofessional is to provide assistance to students with special needs under the guidance of a certified educator in a specialized classroom setting. This position involves supporting the teacher in daily classroom functions, aiding students with unique requirements, and ensuring their physical and emotional well-being while promoting their strengths and dignity in all interactions.

Qualifications Required:

A High School Diploma is mandatory. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in educational environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in consultation and collaboration with both Special Education and General Education instructors.
  • Execute behavioral strategies as outlined by the IEP team for students with behavioral challenges or other special needs, facilitating the reinforcement of learning concepts under the supervision of the assigned educator.
  • Oversee students during designated periods across various school settings to ensure a safe and constructive learning atmosphere.
  • Deliver instructional support to students through a range of individual and group activities (including academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills) to reinforce educational objectives, implement IEP plans, and support student success, all under the guidance of the assigned educator.
  • Apply CPI physical interventions when appropriately trained.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of student information.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Participation in School Activities:

  • The special education paraprofessional is expected to engage in various activities as directed by the Administrator, which may include faculty meetings, open houses, commencement events, student activity supervision, student guidance, and participation in faculty committees aimed at addressing school-related issues.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in behavioral management techniques and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Adept at utilizing technology for documentation and the preparation of professional materials.
  • Capable of instructing and assisting students in the use of computer applications.
  • Skilled in prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, and maintaining flexibility in scheduling.
