Behavior Support Specialist

Summary

Make a meaningful impact in the lives of residents with diverse medical and behavioral needs. As a Behavior Support Specialist, you will play a key role in developing person-centered strategies and promoting positive behavioral support within our Residential Care Facility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update positive behavior support plans tailored to individual residents.
  • Lead training sessions on positive behavioral supports and trauma-informed care for staff members.
  • Coordinate intake/admissions processes and manage behavior/crisis response initiatives within the facility.
  • Provide emotional support to residents and collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of residents and develop individualized Behavior Support Plans.
  • Train staff on proactive and reactive strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviors.
  • Participate actively in service planning teams and liaise with relevant stakeholders, including DHS Case Managers.
  • Contribute to weekly meetings and fulfill administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in residential programs serving individuals with developmental disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis management and exceptional communication skills are essential.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a comprehensive understanding of state and federal regulations governing the field are required.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work collaboratively with diverse individuals is crucial.

Education

  • A degree in Special Education, Psychology, or Human Services is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Experience working in DD or APD group homes is a significant asset.
