Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Assistant – (Community Doula Services) for the Clinical Research Unit and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Health within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction, the Program Assistant – (Community Doula Services) will support the program activities of the Well-Mama Program, a multi-site research project conducted by Northwestern University, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, John H. Stroger Cook County Hospital, and Women’s Hospital, Baton Rouge. Community Doula Services (CDSs) will serve the combined roles of doulas, community health workers, and patient care navigators to address the top drivers of maternal mortality and severe material morbidity for pregnant and postpartum Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) women. Key Duties Bridge communication between patients and healthcare providers. Collaborate and communicate with research project team members (e.g., supervisor, project manager, researchers, other CDSs, etc.) Participate in shadowing sessions and orientation meetings with clinical team members. Lead Monthly 1-hour virtual pregnancy and postpartum support groups. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work comfortably with patients and various members of medical staff. Excellent listening, communication, and organization skills. Must complete NU’s IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years. Passion for health equity issues and increased healthcare access for BIPOC persons and/or women. Proficient in English. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with pregnant individuals. Familiarity with the local community and social service community resources. Representative Member of Community/Population being studied by the Well-Mama Program, particularly BIPOC women. A completed Doula certification, or willingness to obtain a certification. At least two years of relevant work experience. Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to walk to various areas of the hospital and navigate a large volume of patients. Ability to travel from site-to-site as needed. Never pulling/pushing, lifting, and carrying over 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment.
