Overview:

The Middlesex County 4-H Youth DevelopmentProgram Associate position is within the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Services of Middlesex County. This individual will be responsible for assisting in managing the Middlesex County 4-H Youth Development Program, including program recruitment, outreach, training and mentoring, promotion, and educational programming. The position operates under the guidance of the Director of Rutgers Cooperative Extension Services of Middlesex County and reports directly to the 4-H Agent.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Management & Training:
Oversee 4-H adult volunteer screening, training, and orientation under 4-H Agent supervision.
Implement and mentor new 4-H adult volunteers and manage the 4-H volunteer mentoring program.
Coordinate Youth Protection (Rutgers-based program) and manage adult volunteers in various settings.
Develop and update a directory of 4-H adult volunteers.

Program Coordination:
Assist in coordinating and implementing the 4-H Public Speaking program, including recruitment and training of judges, outreach to youth, and event management.
Coordinate involvement of county youth in state-level public speaking events.
Assist with the development and implementation of 4-H Summer Explorations Week programming.
Coordinate and implement pre-fair judging events and manage judge recruitment for the County Fair.
Assist with setting up and running of the County Fair, including volunteer management and conflict resolution.

Facility & Event Management:
Work with 4-H Leaders Association to manage 4-H Center use, including rental processes, and ensure compliance with insurance and policies.
Mentor 4-H Building Management volunteers and coordinate 4-H Center workdays.
Handle insurance needs for 4-H clubs, events, and the county fair.

Fundraising & Outreach:
Serve as liaison and mentor for the 4-H Leaders Association to plan and run fundraisers supporting 4-H programs.
Coordinate individual, organizational, and business contributions for the annual 4-H Project GIFT event and assist as needed.
Assist with recruitment of 4-H members and volunteers via social media, outreach events, and follow-ups.

Educational Programming & Community Development:
Assist in developing and delivering educational programming for 4-H clubs, schools, and external organizations.
Outreach to the New Brunswick 4-H community, develop and implement new programs and clubs, and assist with grant opportunities.
Collaborate with 4-H staff from other counties to replicate valuable programs and implement regional/state-level events.

Communication & Promotion:
Work collaboratively with the 4-H Agent, Public Information Assistant, and Middlesex County Communications to promote 4-H programs.
Maintain and update the 4-H website and social media platforms with current information and events.
Help improve contractual language for 4-H Center rental applications.

QUALIFICATIONS

College degree in a related field and/or at least two years of experience in 4-H youth development, teaching, youth programming or community youth programming.
Strong communication and organizational skills
Interest in working with youth and adult volunteers
Ability to pass the screening process for working with youth.
