POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the day-to-day operations of the general accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Budget, Cost Accounting, FixedAsset, and Financial Reporting functions. Assists in the maintenance and integrity of financial reporting systemsincluding the maintenance of the general ledger and all subsidiary systems feeding into the general ledger. Assists in thepreparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares various financial and regulatory reports as directed by the Controller.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Experience with computerized financial systems, PC based spreadsheet, and word processing skills; andInterpersonal skills, aptitude for working in a team environment, ability to tactfully and constructively work with department leaders in the role of financial advisors.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field and health care experience.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Ability to perform essential and marginal job functions under prolonged periods of stress and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Ability to perform multiple tasks and or projects simultaneously. Sitting andoperating office equipment for long periods of time. Frequent movement between files, desk, and temporary work files. Physical lifting of heavy reports from overhead shelf. High stress level due to deadlines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Maintains the integrity of General Ledger and Subsidiary ledgers. Review and validate information interfacing to general ledger. Prepare and enter monthly journal entries.
  • Provides financial expertise to Department Leaders, coach and assist in the resolution of financial issues. Periodically meet with department leaders to become familiar with departmental goals and operational issues. Assist in evaluation, presentation, and support of new programs. Assists in the investigation of departmental variances. Objectively identify possible alternatives to reported information.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Assists in preparation of work papers and assembly of data to support the completion of various regulatory reports primarily related to hospital audits by third parties.
  • Assists in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the operating budget. Adheres to developed budget schedules, worksheets, calendars, guidelines, and projections.
  • Supports Labor Productivity tools.
  • Assists in the maintenance and improvement of cost accounting systems.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations. Prepares, monitors, and audits petty cash funds.
  • Maintain Community Benefit data input and reporting/CBISA software;
  • Maintains knowledge and application of internal controls.
  • Maintains working knowledge of hospital payroll policies.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assists in the maintenance of written financial procedure manuals.
  • Assists Payroll and Accounts Payable when necessary.
  • Composes new reports utilizing report writers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
