POSITION OVERVIEW

The role involves supporting the daily functions of general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, budgeting, cost accounting, fixed assets, and financial reporting activities. The position plays a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting systems, including the upkeep of the general ledger and all related subsidiary systems. Additionally, the role contributes to the preparation of financial statements in compliance with established accounting standards. Various financial and regulatory reports will be prepared as instructed by the financial controller.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential: Proficiency in computerized financial systems, experience with spreadsheet and word processing software; strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Desirable: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related business discipline, along with experience in the healthcare industry.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

The candidate must be capable of performing essential job functions under prolonged stress and consistently meeting deadlines. The ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively is crucial, as is the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The role requires sitting and using office equipment for extended periods, frequent movement between files and workstations, and occasionally lifting heavy reports. High stress levels may arise due to tight deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Maintains the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, reviewing and validating information interfacing with the general ledger. Prepares and enters monthly journal entries.
  • Provides financial guidance to department leaders, offering coaching and assistance in resolving financial challenges. Regularly meets with department heads to understand their goals and operational issues. Aids in the evaluation, presentation, and support of new initiatives, and investigates departmental variances while objectively identifying alternatives to reported information.
  • Maintains a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Assists in preparing work papers and compiling data to support various regulatory reports, primarily related to audits conducted by external parties.
  • Contributes to the planning, coordination, and execution of the operating budget, adhering to established schedules, worksheets, calendars, guidelines, and projections.
  • Supports labor productivity initiatives.
  • Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of cost accounting systems.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations and manages petty cash funds.
  • Maintains data input and reporting for community benefit initiatives.
  • Ensures knowledge and application of internal controls are upheld.
  • Maintains familiarity with hospital payroll policies.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in updating written financial procedure manuals.
  • Provides support to payroll and accounts payable functions as needed.
  • Creates new reports using report writing tools.
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.
