Location: New Orleans, LA
Summary The Assistant Supervisor, Painting will both perform and assist the Supervisor, Painting, in supervising Painters who perform industrial/commercial type painting, refinishing, and spraying to structures, furnishings, surfaces, and equipment. May also perform and supervise the installation and finishing of drywall, hang wallpaper and finish casework. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining work areas and any equipment used.
This is an Essential Personnel position which can require that the incumbent must report for duty and work through emergencies, and also can be designated by the supervisor as essential for the accomplishment of work, or for the completion of a critical task.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* General knowledge of painting principles, practices and techniques.
* Skill in mixing and matching paints and varnishes, and in the application of paints by brush or spray gun.
* Capable of following oral, written and diagramed instructions.
* Ability and willingness to use a computer (either iPod or desktop) in relation to required departmental computer programs, including but not limited to Outlook email, TMA, and SciQuest systems.
* Ability to review job assignments and to enter time/materials used on each job using the computer system.
* Ability to coordinate and schedule both labor and materials for multiple Operations and Maintenance projects.
* Excellent communications skills and be able to communicate clearly with co-workers and customers on a daily basis, and with outside vendors as needed.
* Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and possibly holidays.
Required Education and/or Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Three years related experience
* Must have a valid, unrestricted (not including corrective lens) U.S. Drivers License, and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to become authorized as a driver.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience in commercial/industrial/residential painting.
* Experience and understanding of all phases of painting, joining and finishing to industry standard levels.
* Previous experience in other trades in addition to painting.
* Certification in commercial painting and coverings, e.g., NICE, PPG, Sherwin Williams, etc.
