Job Description Summary DEFINITION Under the general supervision of the area administrator or designee, the Affinity Programs Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Affinity Programs' space, supports classified personnel, and collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to foster an environment of connection and belonging on campus. The incumbent provides leadership in the administration and organization for programming and services of African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, current/former Foster Youth, LGBTQ+, and Undocumented students, and other historically marginalized populations. The Supervisor maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. As needed, the Supervisor may be required to fill in for service needs in the absence of staff. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents in this position utilize the Guided Pathways framework, advance the college's Student Equity Plan, and employ equity-minded practices to increase student engagement, sense of belonging, persistence, retention, and completion. The incumbent will embrace and model the Caring Campus behaviors, take a leadership role as well as work as part of a team, and ensure all provisions of services to students are aligned with the District's strategic goals. Essential Functions & Qualifications ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinate the day-to-day office operations, program activities, and administrative functions offered through the programs; Assure the provision and support of a student-centered, equity-minded, and customer-service oriented environment to augment student engagement, sense of belonging, persistence, retention, and completion; Promote and maintain integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in the delivery of student programming and services; Oversee the proper implementation and maintenance of case management, including becoming proficient with the customer relationship management platform; Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; Assess and monitor workloads and adjust operations as necessary to meet student needs; Supervise, motivate, evaluate, and provide work direction to classified personnel in coordination with the area administrator; Support the professional development of classified personnel by enhancing their understanding of diversity, equity, inclusive excellence, and social identities such as race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin/immigration status, age, and/or ability; Implement strategies to support and educate students, faculty, and staff about the experiences of minoritized students; Work collaboratively with Student Success and Support Programs and the Office of Instruction to promote intersectional programming and cross-cultural community building; Assist the area administrator with the development and upkeep of standard operating procedures, data tracking and analysis, assessment of services, and the preparation and submission of federal, state, and institutional reports; Attend, represent, and participate in districtwide and annual professional development activities, committees, workshops, conferences, and meetings to keep up to date with best practices in the development, sustainability, and significance of affinity programs; Assist, prepare, and monitor budgets; manage and authorize expenditures in accordance with the established methods of control; and assure services comply with categorical fund requirements; Assist classified personnel with the development and upkeep of web pages and print materials to ensure accurate and timely information is available; and Perform other related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's Degree in sociology, psychology, social work, education, or related field Experience: Required Two years of experience in program development and coordination, social service or student services experience; and Direct experience working with and knowledge of best practices for serving minoritized students in a higher education setting. Two years of community college experience working with educational programs focused on student access, persistence, retention, and completion; theoretical as well as practical knowledge of best practices developing, and maintaining programmatic relevance to address nuances within minoritized communities; and Bilingual in Spanish (oral and written) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of programs, projects, and activities related to the day-to-day functions of the Affinity Programs; Demonstrate knowledge of the services and resources available to students, and experience developing partnerships and cultivating collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituencies; Demonstrate sensitivity to, understanding of, and respect for the diverse socio-economic, ethnic, religious, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and cultural backgrounds, learning ability of community college students, faculty and staff; Ability to interpret and apply program specific and District policies and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations; Knowledge of best practices and principles of supervision; Application and use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote) and Adobe software, and technology to follow-up with students and track their progress; Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; Skills in excellent customer service practices, including effective interpersonal communication skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; and Strong organizational skills and ability to develop and maintain processes for strategic and efficient planning.
