About the Position

The County of San Luis Obispo is seeking a dedicated Facilities Supervisor for its Water Utilities Division. This pivotal role will spearhead a newly established Capital Planning and Maintenance team, overseeing the upkeep of numerous water and wastewater facilities throughout the county.

The Facilities Supervisor will be tasked with developing and executing a thorough maintenance strategy, managing various projects, and supervising existing personnel.


Key Responsibilities:

1.

Infrastructure Oversight:


  • Site Management (including vegetation control, fencing, access routes, and storm drainage)
  • Building Upkeep (covering HVAC systems, roofing, painting, and plumbing)

Under the guidance of the Water Utilities Division Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will plan, organize, and oversee assigned program areas within the General Services Department, which includes capital project management, facility planning, and maintenance.


  • Maintenance of Cathodic Protection Systems
  • Management of Tanks and Sludge
  • Calibration and Maintenance of Reservoir Gauges

Equipment and Technology Management:


  • Oversight of Generators and Battery Systems
  • Fleet Management and Vehicle Acquisition
  • Electrical Systems Management

Strategic Planning and Coordination:


  • Implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning and Asset Management
  • Development of Maintenance Plans and Purchase Orders
  • Supervisory Duties (including personnel management and budgeting)

4.

Emergency Preparedness and Special Projects:

  • Coordination of Emergency Response Initiatives
  • Management of Special Maintenance Projects
This position will be essential in ensuring the operational efficiency and longevity of the county's water utility assets.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for utility system sites and facilities. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a commitment to enhancing operational efficiency are essential.


Minimum Qualifications:

A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Examples of qualifying education and experience include:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in a relevant field; experience in construction management, architecture, or engineering is preferred. A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in construction or building maintenance, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
