Position Summary:

The Associate Director, Workplace Equality Program contributes to major projects of the teams portfolio such as the fee for service training program, educational web series, online resource management and research on the experience of LGBTQ+ people at work. This portfolio includes substantial direct consultation with major employers on LGBTQ+-inclusive policies, benefits and practices; development of major publications and accompanying resources; and development of strategies for expanding and refining these flagship programs. This position is responsible for the development and management of timely, accurate and robust resources to support the work of the program including employer and employee educational resources, best practice guidance, peer-to-peer network, story-telling resources, webinar library, and social and video campaigns. The Associate Director, Workplace Equality Program reports to the Senior Director, Workplace Equality Program.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with leadership of the Workplace Equality Program and external partners and consultants, on LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion outreach strategies, survey revisions, and implementing other Workplace Equality activities, including meetings, conferences, convenings and publications, etc. in person and virtually.
  • Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations about LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion, representing the HRC Workplace Equality Program internally and externally, as needed.
  • Develop and update LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion related resources and materials including but not limited to online resources, presentations handouts, employer resources and any other key resources needed by the program
  • Track current research and publications relevant to LGBTQ+ diversity & inclusion and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and experts in the field.
  • Collaborate with internal and external colleagues on LGBTQ+ training related projects.
  • Assist in survey review and preparation of annual Corporate Equality Index.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Online teams on research, development and redesign of the projects such as; Corporate Equality Index (CEI) employer search webpage to incorporate a new version of the Buyers Guide and digitize the Trans Tool Kit.
  • Develop and maintain the New Workplace Equality Program monthly newsletter. Create and draft content to distribute to CEI participants on trending LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion topics.
  • Contribute content to Equality Magazine and other publications (digital, social) targeted to HRC members and supporters.
  • Monitor and capture trends in workplace inclusion to identify areas of opportunity to educate the Workplace team and stakeholders.
  • Support Workplace Equality Program senior team and HRC leadership in drafting remarks, press release quotes, and ghostwriting op-eds.
  • Mid to high level corporate consultation (SME) with CEI partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience in full-time relevant work, substantial experience with corporate entities, and a demonstrated record of successful organizational consultation.
    • Published writing experience preferred.
  • Background or experience in matters of organizational diversity and inclusion is preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Apps (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive) and internet proficiency including research and data validation.
  • Excellent verbal, spoken and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team.
  • Flexibility with work schedule; must be willing to travel up to 20% of work time, including evenings and weekends.
  • Personal interest in and commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, racial and gender justice required.

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
