Job Summary:
The Director, Government and Community Relations, will take a leadership role in securing operating and capital funding from government agencies; fostering, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with Government officials, their staff, and Government agencies; writing and submitting grant proposals and grant reports; monitoring the fulfillment of grant deliverables; strengthening 92NY’s relationships in the public sector and in NYC communities; advocating on behalf of 92NY’s strategic priorities and legislative issues relevant to 92NY; and supporting, through Government and Community Relations, the Community Center pillar of 92NY and 92NY’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Job Responsibilities Include:
Government Relations
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Government and Community Relations, and the Director, Government and UJA Relations, along with members of 92NY’s Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team, to plan and execute strategic fundraising efforts related to government sources for 92NY’s programs in arts, culture, education, civic engagement, Jewish life, and health and wellness.
- Manage, grow, and diversify a portfolio of government funders.
- Work with program colleagues to ensure fulfillment of government grant deliverables, including outputs, outcomes, and success indicators.
- Work with the Government and Community Relations team and the Capital Projects team to ensure all government funding-related requirements are met for 92NY’s publicly funded capital projects.
- Prepare and submit interim and final narrative and financial reports, and other necessary requirements for government funders.
- Coordinate submission of materials required for government contracts and track progress with contract registration.
- Ensure proper stewardship and acknowledgment of government funders.
- Utilize 92NY’s systems and processes to input and track data related to government funding of 92NY’s programs and capital projects. These include, for example, accessing data processed by 92NY’s Finance Department and inputting portfolio-related plans and steps into 92NY’s Customer Relationship Management system.
- Liaise with Elected Officials’ offices, and keep current on NYC, NY State, and Federal Electeds who are relevant to 92NY—who they are and what their priorities are. As a member of the Government and Community Relations team, also work with contracted government relations firms that advocate on behalf of 92NY, to create and maintain relationships with Elected Officials and their associates.
- Work closely with 92NY program staff to become thoroughly familiar with 92NY’s wide array of programs, and communicate about these programs in a compelling manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Represent 92NY and its programs in meetings, site visits, and other conversations with Elected Officials and government agencies and in various professional organizations and coalitions related to advocacy. Prepare materials as needed for these meetings, including, e.g., 92NY program descriptions, lists of collaborating schools, and NYC Council district-specific materials.
- Draft and present testimony for government and committee hearings and provide related briefings for 92NY leadership’s meetings with Elected Officials.

Community Relations
- Work with the Executive Vice President, Operations Administration and Business Process Improvement, and the Government and Community Relations team to help build a Community Relations function at 92NY to align with 92NY’s mission and objectives.
- Collaborate with colleagues in 92NY’s programmatic centers and scholarship support services to help further 92NY’s impact in NYC’s communities, as aligned with 92NY’s overall mission and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Collaborate across 92NY to develop strategic opportunities for 92NY’s presence at and engagement with NYC community-based organizations, through, for example, the work of 92NY’s Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact.
- Develop relationships with Elected Officials’ community relations and liaison staff to learn about community needs and priorities, and to engage them in relevant 92NY programs and services for NYC communities.
- Represent 92NY at relevant community-based programs and events NYC-wide.
- May be assigned other tasks and duties reasonably related to job responsibilities.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired:

- Bachelor’s degree, with Master’s Degree preferred.
- 5-10 years previous experience in government grant writing.
- Ability to understand and appreciate the many facets of 92NY and to represent 92NY in a compelling way to various constituencies in government and NYC communities.
- Ability to build relationships with culturally diverse communities.
- Proven track record in securing operating and capital support from government sources.
