The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is dedicated to fostering early childhood development, empowering children to reach their fullest potential. POSITION SUMMARY

CMOM is seeking a Community and Government Relations Manager to facilitate the establishment of a new facility. This role will report to the Deputy Director, Capital Campaign, and collaborate closely with the Capital Project Team, Development Team, and other colleagues to synchronize project and fundraising initiatives. The Manager will be instrumental in fostering and sustaining robust relationships with community stakeholders, government representatives, and policymakers to further CMOM's mission and enhance its visibility and support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Engagement:

  • Act as the primary representative and contact for community stakeholders.
  • Participate in community board meetings, public hearings, and related events to maintain an active presence.
  • Identify and nurture community leaders to serve as advocates for CMOM.
  • Communicate regularly with local residents regarding project updates and museum activities.
  • Prepare strategic responses to public inquiries and manage correspondence effectively.
  • Keep leadership informed on emerging issues and developments.
  • Create engaging electronic and print materials to support advocacy efforts.

Government Relations:

  • Establish and maintain strong connections with government officials and agencies to promote the organization's interests.
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies in collaboration with leadership.
  • Oversee government strategy meetings with lobbyists.
  • Advocate for CMOM's interests in governmental matters, including funding and policy issues.
  • Monitor relevant government policies and legislation, providing strategic insights.
  • Formulate strategies to secure government funding, including grant proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements for government grants and contracts.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to manage budgets and financial reports for government-related projects.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a database of community and government contacts, tracking interactions.
  • Serve as the liaison between Capital Project and Fundraising Teams.
  • Support campaign events and communications to boost visibility with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on campaign progress and stakeholder engagement.
  • Work with the Development Team to align community and government relations with broader strategic goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A strong commitment to CMOM's mission with a collaborative and innovative mindset.
  • 5+ years of experience in community relations, government affairs, or public policy.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences.
  • Resilient and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of New York State and City government structures preferred.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.

COMPENSATION:

$65,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
