- The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a chief of staff. This is a newly crafted position reporting directly to the Museum president. In partnership with the president, the chief of staff will be responsible for developing and implementing institutional strategy.
- The chief of staff will lead strategic projects and initiatives and manage the flow of information among senior leaders. They will draft and manage leadership team meeting agendas, materials, and key action items. The chief of staff will have responsibility for institution-wide (cross-divisional) committees of the Museum and represent the president as needed in both internal and external Museum-related meetings, including Board committees.
- The chief of staff will directly supervise the newly created Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Analytics. In collaboration with the Secretary of the Board and the Office of General Counsel, supervise scheduling of board meetings and board committee meetings, and lead all aspects of the production and distribution of Board materials. Working closely with the Advancement team, they will be responsible for developing Board engagement, including orientation for new trustees; leading relations with individual trustees; and ensuring accurate documentation of trustee information and records.
- This position will serve as a primary liaison for the president with many partners across the institution and lead the executive Office of the President.
- This is an opportunity for a creative and highly organized problem solver, with meticulous attention to detail and outstanding writing and interpersonal skills, to be a meaningful part of the leadership team. This role requires excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to balance and prioritize multiple, often-shifting projects at once. Additionally, the ability to effectively work with individuals at every level of an organization, both internally and externally, is necessary.
- The expected salary range for the chief of staff is $350,000 - $400,000/annual. AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years relevant experience in leading organizations, managing complex projects, and implementing change.
- Familiarity with museums and/or non-profit institutions, including board governance.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
