Founded in 1979, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) empowers individuals with Down syndrome and their families by driving policy change, providing resources, engaging with local communities, and shifting public perceptions. The organization’s work is achieved through three key areas of programming: Resources & Support, Policy & Advocacy, and Community Engagement.

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Government Relations, the Manager of Federal Government Relations will execute NDSS’ advocacy and government relations strategy at the federal level. Coordinating closely with the Senior Manager of Government Relations and other members of the policy and advocacy team, this role will monitor federal-level legislative and regulatory activity in employment and labor, education, community integration and other content areas as needed. This individual will engage directly with members of Congress and their staff, as well as personnel at executive agencies and key external stakeholders.

**Essential Functions and Responsibilities**

- Monitors, analyzes and makes recommendations related to federal legislative and executive activity
- Directly engages Congressional and other legislative offices to advance NDSS’s legislative agenda
- Supports NDSS’s federal advocacy events, programs, and initiatives, including NDSS’s annual Hill Day
- Collaborates with and advises the Senior Manager of Government Relations on the implementation and expansion of outreach, education, and legislative advocacy programs
- Represents NDSS to both government officials and the general public
- Participates actively in coalitions, alliances and memberships that support critical legislative, regulatory and nonregulatory issues
- Collaborates on the research and writing of NDSS communications, action alerts and social media activities
- Other duties as assigned

**Supervisory Responsibilities**: Legislative Coordinator

**_ Education and Experience:_**
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in public policy preferred
- 2-3 years of experience in policy, advocacy and/or government affairs
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrated record of sound political judgment and bipartisanship
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
