Job Description:The Patient Safety Assistant provides administrative support to the Risk Management/Patient Safety team and coordinates and assists with office functions in support of Risk Management/Patient Safety. Serves as a first point of contact for those individuals seeking assistance from the department. This role fosters and supports a culture wherein Essentia Health patients and employees feel safe and supported.
Education Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for answering incoming phone calls, documenting concerns, and escalating events to appropriate team member(s) for further review, investigation, and analysis
  • Assists Patient Safety Specialists with triage and on-call responsibilities
  • Identifies and escalates events submitted to Risk Management and other responsible departments, as appropriate
  • Enters event information in RL6 database, including patient and provider feedback
  • Enters information in RL6 database for repository purposes (i. e., mandated reports, search warrants)
  • Responsible for drafting and processing warning and dismissal letters, COAT violations/revocations, and assistance in the RL6 database
  • Assists with the scheduling of depositions and trial testimony
  • Assist with review and response to subpoenas and other legal requests
  • Assists with preparation of routine and non-routine reports, team agendas, meeting minutes, and special assignments/projects
  • Provides other support to staff within the department, as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 year of office experience providing customer service/service recovery

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of office experience providing customer service/service recovery
  • Healthcare experience
  • Associate’s degree
  • Experience with RL6 or other Risk Management Patient Safety Event Reporting Software
  • Proficient and comprehensive skills in computer software systems including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
