Ensures accurate preparation of the monthly financial statements and provides financial analysis on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis. Responsible for financial administration, budgets, and financial and statistical reporting. Responsible for overseeing and maintaining the routine operations of the finance department.


The Accounting Manager works with other leaders, and through direct reports, to execute the strategic initiatives of NorthStar Care Community. The Manager works closely with the AVP, Finance and Chief Financial Officer to promote a culture of excellence, ensuring outcomes are met, and accurate financial reporting is achieved.


Essential Functions:


  • Responsible for oversight and accuracy of the agency’s general ledger and all general ledger functions. Review of monthly journal entries as completed by the Finance staff to ensure appropriateness and ensure supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP.
  • Responsible for the review, accuracy and timely distribution of the monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensures accurate reconciliation of general ledger records to supporting documents on a monthly, and annual basis. Follows up and resolves differences in a timely manner.
  • Along with the CFO and AVP, Finance, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring of accounting and internal control policies and procedures.
  • Manages cash flow and forecasting in collaboration with the AVP, Finance.
  • Lead the annual agency audit process performed by an outside accounting firm with the support of others.
  • Assists management in compiling and reporting monthly and annual statistical data to support internal and external reporting needs.
  • Supervises the assigned accounting staff to ensure the accounting support functions are performed timely and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assists Directors and Executives in the interpretation and analysis of departmental income and expense information.
  • Leads the annual agency budget process along with the CFO and AVP of Finance. Assists leaders in developing their annual departmental budgets.
  • Oversees the compiling of the agency tax returns and cost reports in accordance with regulatory rules and timelines.
  • Maintains and updates financial software control records, as needed.
  • Keeps informed and current on IRS and other accounting regulations and compliance issues.
  • Utilizes allocated supplies and resources appropriately to ensure business outcomes are met.
  • Actively participates in internal and external education, training, in-services and other activities to promote personal and professional growth.
  • Adjusts to changes in workload and schedules based on changing departmental and organizational priorities.
  • Upholds the NSCC policies, procedures, protocols and processes and all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Models the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.


Qualifications:


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and knowledge of business and management principles required.
  • More than five (5) years of progressively increasing responsible accounting experience required.Experience needs to include month-end close, financial statement preparation, and budgets. Experience with multi-entity organizations is preferred but not required. Healthcare and non-profit experience preferred. Supervision or management experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be computer literate, with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Must have strong aptitude for detail, accuracy, and follow through.
  • Must be familiar with and have operational knowledge of standard office business machines.
  • Must possess an understanding of performance improvement and be able to communicate and operationalize performance improvement initiatives at the departmental and organizational level.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence and the ability to promote positive, constructive relationships with communication and collaboration at all levels with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively use technology in support of management and clinical operations.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and be able to communicate orally and in writing in internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands. Demonstrates integrity and flexibility and participates actively in change and quality improvement initiatives.
  • The physical and sensory demands of the position include: vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; traveling; driving or riding in motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; lifting up to twenty five (25) pounds unassisted.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel and maintain the rigors of a busy schedule. Frequently works variable hours/days; activities and workload may require extended days.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
