Pipeline Behavioral Health Services is looking for a self-motivated and focused individual to process billing for all Commercial Insurances, Medicaid, and Medicare. The Billing Specialist has responsibility for the processing, analysis and support of the billing data and system. Must have knowledge of and be comfortable with Medicaid redesign, although the focus is on commercial insurance. This is a part-time independent contractor position with growth potential.  
 
The ideal candidate for the Billing Specialist position has experience coding, can analyze data for billing or clinical irregularities, i.e., identify overlapping services, incorrect coding etc. and has the ability and initiative to research any irregularities and take corrective actions. 
 The candidate's experience, attention to detail, trustworthiness, and willingness to be part of a team effort is valued and are important considerations in this position.  Responsibilities include, but not be limited to the following: 
  • Manages the collection of information needed for billing – such as services provided to clients. 
  • Organize and input client authorization and insurance carrier information.  
  • Research missing, denied or underpaid services and initiates corrective actions with client or insurance agency. 
  • Coordinates efforts with commercial insurance carriers, as needed, to research billing & payment related matters. 
  • Have a basic knowledge of the Therapy Notes Software Billing System & Protocols. 
  • Effective communication, including writing, speaking and active listening. 
  • Great customer service skills, including interpersonal conversation, patience, and empathy. 
  • Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills. 
  • In-depth knowledge of industry best practices. 
  • Organization, time management and prioritization abilities. 
  • Ability to be discreet and maintain the security of patient or customer information. 
  • Effective computer skills to use bookkeeping and account management software promptly and efficiently. 
  • Understanding of industry-specific policies, such as HIPAA regulations for health care. 
  • Monitor the firm’s accounts receivable and identify overdue accounts. 
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints concerning billing. 
  • Submit regular reports on the status of unpaid accounts and any repayment progress. 
     
Education and Experience: 
  • Two years’ experience in related field. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred. 
  • Experience in a mental health or healthcare setting is considered an asset for the position.  
 Physical Requirements:  
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds or more at times.
