Apogee Research is pioneering new ways to build distributed, heterogeneous systems designed to operate resiliently at scale in contested and resource constrained environments. We do this by combining custom software toolchains with feedback control to dynamically adjust which algorithms are being used based on the as-measured environment.

We are looking for engineers to design and implement new algorithms across a number of relevant domains including networking, distributed data fusion and resource management, distributed electronic warfare, and distributed Command and Control (C2). Particularly relevant are backgrounds related to systems control.

The position is located in our Arlington, VA office. Existing DoD Top Secret clearance is preferred, otherwise all candidates must be eligible to obtain one and therefore all candidates must be a US citizen to apply.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop algorithms for distributed sensor and C2 (Command and Control) networks operating in highly dynamic and uncertain environments. These may include algorithms for:
    1. Retasking jamming or sensing platforms to maintain necessary coverage across concurrent missions
    2. Feedback driven changes in compression or error correction protocols to handle measured fluctuations in link performance or the amount of data that needs to be shared
    3. Fusion or tracking leveraging data from distributed, heterogeneous sensor feeds
  • Characterize the open-loop and closed-loop stability of nonlinear systems via analysis and experimentation
  • Work with internal and external teammates to implement the algorithms in real hardware and demonstrate the functionality in lab and flight tests
  • Support development of software toolchains that enable other contractors and warfighters to more robustly leverage feedback control in their applications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working with real systems with a focus on controls or algorithmic development
  • Track record of working in research environments but with an ability to understand customer needs and develop operationally relevant systems
  • Software implementation experience in a language such as C/C++, MATLAB, or Java
  • Strong understanding of probability and statistics
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and remain well organized in a fast-paced environment
