Position Overview

As a Senior Robotics Engineer within the Maximo team, you will spearhead the creation of sophisticated robotics software and capabilities. Your role will be integral to the development of the comprehensive software stack that powers Maximo, our robotic system for solar module installation. Responsibilities will encompass crafting advanced software in multiple programming languages, optimizing complex algorithms, and steering the technical direction of the robotics segment in alignment with our overarching vision and product strategy.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical foundation in robotics system architecture, control mechanisms, and design principles, complemented by extensive programming experience. You will be an entrepreneurial, mission-driven professional tasked with advancing and executing the technical vision for our solar module installation robotics. This role involves defining, designing, and developing robotics applications for outdoor environments, collaborating closely with mechanical, control, and vision/AI engineers.

As a key engineering leader at Maximo, you will work in synergy with the Maximo team, external industry collaborators, and various AES departments, including engineering, business development, construction, finance, supply chain, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement advanced control algorithms for robotic systems, focusing on motion planning, trajectory generation, and sensor integration.
  • Translate high-level product requirements into detailed technical specifications.
  • Lead the integration and development of robotic hardware and software components.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of robotic systems to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
  • Research, develop, and implement new functionalities for industrial robotics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate the successful integration of robotic solutions into complex systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in robotics and control technologies to foster innovation and enhance product performance.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient programming skills in languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Expertise in ROS2 and experience with ROS hardware integration.
  • Experience with programming PLC/HMI and robotics (preferably KUKA).
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex robotics systems to market.
  • Understanding of motion planning, control, perception, and simulation.
  • Proven ability through prior projects, advanced education, or research in the robotics domain.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance (e.g., CE, FCC, UL), safety standards, risk assessment, and product definition (sensors, power, and electronic components).
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for achieving results and a proactive approach to seeking new opportunities.
  • Skills and Attributes: Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams in a dynamic, fast-paced technical environment with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills, results-oriented mindset, and a commitment to quality and detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated capability to understand solar engineering and technology concepts, challenge assumptions, and make informed decisions regarding products and technologies. Knowledge of automation, robotics, computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence is advantageous.
