The New World Symphony (NWS) is a laboratory for generating new ideas about the way music is taught, presented, and experienced. Under the direction of Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, its unique fellowship program trains music school graduates for leadership roles in the field of classical music. Artistic excellence, connection to audiences, engaging communities and entrepreneurial activities are pillars of the experiential curriculum. Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Implementation: 

  • Develop and implement a strategic gift solicitation plan for generating major gifts ($10,000+) and growing engagement from high-level donors and prospects 
  • Develop engagement opportunities and upgrade strategies targeted to base and mid-level donors  
  • Create donor communication and engagement campaigns based on donor behaviors and interests 

Relationship management: 

  • Build ongoing relationships with a portfolio of current donors, develop a pipeline of prospective donors, and solicit gifts verbally, in writing, and in person 
  • Work together with NWS Trustees and other interested parties to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors 
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with other members of the Institutional Advancement department and broader NWS team 
  • Generate portfolio reports and status updates to provide the VP of Development and other NWS leadership with an accurate portrayal of activity and financial projections 
  • Attend performances, donor cultivation events, and related community activities, serving as a representative of NWS and contributing to building a pipeline of new prospective donors 

Data Analysis: 

  • Utilize NWS database and analytics to inform NWS fundraising strategy, goals, and experimentation 
  • In partnership with cross-departmental teams, use metrics to create and experiment with customized solicitation strategies targeting organizational objectives and donor interests 
  • Attend and represent NWS at industry-related events in order to stay abreast of emerging trends in fundraising and philanthropy 
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three to five years of experience soliciting and securing mid- and major-level gifts; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Highly collaborative, communicative, and transparent with the ability to build strong and effective internal and external relationships 
  • Ability to manage strategic donor relationships 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong analytical skills 
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills, including the ability to multitask, anticipate needs, set priorities, function efficiently under deadlines and shifting priorities 
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision 
  • Experience with donor databases; knowledge of Tessitura is an advantage 
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging 
  • An optimistic, can-do attitude 
  • Passion for the mission of the New World Symphony 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
