SUMMARY

Provide advocacy for sexual assault survivors from a trauma informed, culturally responsive social justice perspective.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with the Sexual Assault Program Coordinator to ensure the successful operation of SafePlace’s 24/7 Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP).
  • Work to ensure SARP 24/7 calendar coverage.
  • Cover open SARP shifts as needed.
  • Provide in person and telephone advocacy for sexual assault survivors.
  • Provide survivors with crisis intervention and advocacy.
  • Provide medical advocacy.
  • Complete sexual assault survivor follow-ups and on-going case management
  • Provide legal advocacy for Sexual Assault Protection and Anti-harassment orders.
  • Provide drop-in advocacy.
  • Attend all direct service and all staff meetings as required.
  • Work closely with the Sexual Assault Program Coordinator to ensure quality services.
  • Perform duties as described from a trauma informed and culturally responsive social justice perspective.
  • Complete and maintain self-care plans to address compassion fatigue, vicarious, secondary, and direct trauma.
  • Perform duties as described in a culturally responsive manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Have basic administrative skills.
  • Ability to exhibit self-care in a work environment where direct and/or secondary trauma is likely to occur.
  • Demonstrated commitment to challenging issues of oppression.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a crisis intervention work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate with people of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) a telephone.
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) a car and current auto insurance or have access to transportation.
  • Commitment to the need for client and agency confidentiality.
  • Agreement with the SafePlace philosophy statement.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
  • Experience participating in a team-oriented work environment.
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization with 24-hour programming.
  • Experience with civil and criminal legal systems.
  • Higher education or training in gender/cultural/therapeutic studies.
  • Completion of the SafePlace ACT training.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  Specific knowledge, experience and abilities acquired must include the following:

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. SafePlace initial sexual assault training certification.
  2. Valid driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance, if a driver. Valid picture I.D. required.

TRAINING REQUIRED

Volunteer is required to complete the initial SafePlace ACT Training and on-the-job crisis line training with shelter staff.  Volunteer must attend 20 hours of on-going direct service training a year, which must include 15 hours advocacy, 12 hours of sexual assault training and 3 hours of CPR training.
