POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Chief Financial Officer at Ozarks Regional YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. They will be an innovative, cause-driven Chief Financial Officer who will be an impactful driver towards increasing the overall financial health of the organization by providing strategic leadership for YMCA business operations and strategic initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Hires, trains, supervises, develops and manages all accounting staff and budgets, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, grants management and general accounting areas.
  2. Designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong fiscal management.
  3. Maintains an accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all operations, transactions, assets and liabilities of the YMCA for all funds.
  4. Maintains records, and prepares various internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies. Prepares the IRS Form 990 tax return.
  5. Prepares financial statements required by management, the board, and outside agencies.
  6. Serves as resource person to management and program personnel in all matters relating to accounting and accounts payable and navigates differing stakeholder perspectives when making decisions.
  7. Facilitates key functions such as annual independent audit. Conducts special internal audits, accounting studies, analyses and cost studies as required. Provides recommendations.
  8. Develops and maintains key relationships, including with banks and insurers.
  9. Supervises or prepares reconciliations of all YMCA bank accounts on a monthly basis.
  10. Coordinates and supervises operating cash flow management.
  11. Manage accounting systems for property and equipment, endowment, investments, restricted funds and others as required.
  12. Reviews, updates, and/or develops internal control systems for the YMCA and oversees all internal audits and ensures current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
  13. Manages investments, under the direction of the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, and within the risk tolerance set by the board.
  14. Works closely with IT staff and portfolio managers to ensure that computer and software systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls.
  15. Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  16. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  17. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  18. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  19. Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in business, finance, or equivalent; MBA, CPA or CMA preferred
  2. 7 + years of experience in accounting and financial management.
  3. Experience in effectively managing a staff team, and ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
  4. Understanding of and experience in GAAP.
  5. Experience in a non-profit environment preferred.
  6. Knowledge of and expertise with computerized accounting and payroll systems.
  7. Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems.
