Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist administers human resources policies and programs. Promotes equity, fair treatment, and positive employee relations and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws. Provides comprehensive Human Resources support to colleagues at multiple locations.  Understands and supports the accomplishment of the organization’s goals. Builds strong working relationships with all colleagues. Involved in solving complex Human Resources issues. Works independently with minimal guidance. 


This position is open to both full-time and part-time candidates. Part-time opportunities may be considered for highly qualified applicants with relevant experience.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the recruiting, selection and hiring process and supports hiring managers to ensure the successful selection and onboarding of colleagues
  • Addresses basic employee relations issues and escalate complex matters to the fractional CFO or Executive Director as appropriate; provides input into, and assist in executing, DEI initiatives to foster an inclusive and equitable workplace culture
  • Coordinates new employee onboarding
  • Coordinates employee training and development opportunities
  • Assists managers as needed in planning and delivering feedback to support and improve performance
  • Administers benefits and leave administration programs, including short-term disability, workers’ compensation, FMLA, and personal leaves. Assists employees in navigating the employee benefit service providers
  • Coordinates the annual open enrollment period
  • Ensures job descriptions are kept current
  • Responds to correspondence from government agencies to include Unemployment and Department of Labor
  • Ensures data integrity in the BambooHR system
  • Maintains confidential employee data in electronic and paper formats
  • Keeps employee handbook updated
  • Maintains knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and ensures compliance
  • Interacts with the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of Human Resources experience, nonprofit experience a bonus


Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of HR laws and regulations
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in HR software, Microsoft Office Suite including Sharepoint, and Google Workspaces
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with limited supervision
  • Cultural competence and commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment
  • Experience working with diverse populations and DEI initiatives
