SUMMARY

The Facility Operations Specialist is responsible for all Westbury facility safety compliance, equipment maintenance and support the logistics team when necessary. The activities include being named site safety representative and working with quality team to ensure site safety requirements are met. Also included, working with site leadership to ensure site maintenance standards are aligned with local laws and regulations. Although there are no direct reports for this position, the ideal candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to effectively motivate, influence, and work with employees with whom they have no direct reporting relationship, in order to complete required tasks.

This position will ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, State Departments of Health, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), EMEA and FDA Guidelines, general State and Country Regulations such as but not limited to (CLIA, CAP, USP, ISO 9001, USDA regulations, HTA license, DEA and State Controlled Substance programs) where site appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assume role of Westbury site Safety Officer, managing site safety, chemical and biohazardous waste disposal, safety compliance through quarterly meetings and monthly safety checks.
  • Direct facility maintenance, including equipment maintenance for all laboratory teams and preventative maintenance of all laboratory equipment, as well as planning and budgeting for replacement equipment.
  • Working with building management for the planning of all facility related needs, including but not limited to electrical, plumbing and pest control.
  • Facilitate operational compliance with relevant health and safety requirements including but not limited to OSHA standards.
  • Liaise with quality team to perform safety training, maintain safety records, and investigate site related safety concerns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Continued)

  • Respond appropriately to facility and safety emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
  • Receipting and logging all incoming biological raw material and packing all finished goods in compliance with department SOP’s.
  • Maintain department cleanliness including personal workspace. Removal of trash and biohazard waste containers.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school graduate or experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Safety and compliance experience, including performing OSHA audits, highly preferred.
  • Prior biological shipping and receiving experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT shipping and handling preferred.
  • Prior experience in Facilities, equipment maintenance preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software programs including MS Office.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with knowledge or familiarity with scientific terminology.
  • Excellent communication skills, a strategic mindset, self-starter and the ability to work cross-functionally.

A full-time Monday through Friday workweek with general business hours and flexibility to occasionally work additional hours and weekends as needed and approved by management.
