Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician/Scheduler

Successful candidates must have 1) a college degree or equivalent professional experience in geography, environmental sciences, archaeology or history, or a closely related field and 2) one to two years of professional GIS experience. Location may be remote but there is a preference for someone who can join the Austin, Texas or Norman, Oklahoma office and salary ranges from $55k - $60k.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Experience working in a collaborative environment
  • Strong understanding of the GIS environment, specifically Esri products (ArcGIS PRO, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Field Maps)
  • Understanding of Cartographic and Data Visualization concepts
  • Experience working with CAD files (dwg/dgn), KMZ, SHP and GDB files
  • Working understanding of global and projected coordinate systems
  • Understanding of best GIS practices - particularly as they relate to data presentation and cartography
  • Familiarity with GPS (standard and GNSS/RTK/VRS) operation- uploading, downloading, data processing, and data presentation
  • Experience with georeferencing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard Office applications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable professional GIS experience in cultural resource management, environmental resources, or infrastructure planning fields. Additional preferred experience:

  • Ability to read and interpret building and site plans and specifications
  • FAA Part 107 Certification and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV; aka "Drone") mapping and documentation
  • Experience with environmental or cultural studies for regulatory compliance of transportation and/ or infrastructure projects at the federal, state, or local levels
  • Experience working in a billable environment, where time management plays a key role in developing project methods and strategies
  • Experience with quality control / internal peer review best practices

The successful candidate will be working under the supervision of senior GIS staff and subject-matter discipline leads and project managers to access, process, and analyze field, historical, and publicly accessible clearinghouse GIS data as a central component of subject-matter experts' work deliverables. You will regularly:

  1. Assist Oklahoma Program Manager with monitoring proposal and project deliverable schedules and coordinating with team members as needed
  2. Provide dedicated GIS Support to the Cultural Resources Team in the Norman, OK office as well as other teams distributed throughout the United States
  3. Provide GIS support for the other disciplines including Biology, Compliance, and NEPA
  4. Process census data for Community Impacts Analyses
  5. Generate GIS-based maps, illustrations, data tables, data models, etc. from public GIS datasets and/or field-collected data
  6. Assemble time-sensitive information to create Field Maps and Survey-123 applications for surveys
  7. Review, assess, and translate (as necessary) externally provided GIS data for use in ERG's internal systems
  8. Update and maintain internal GIS datasets and templates for accuracy and performance
  9. Participate in internal QC process to ensure our deliverables are consistent, include necessary data, and are legible
  10. Respond to requested revisions and updates on GIS deliverables in a friendly, cooperative manner
  11. Create publication-ready maps and figures for regulatory correspondence, reports, and other deliverables
  12. Look for opportunities beyond the day-to-day to expand and enhance the company's capabilities through improved methods, systems, hardware and software, etc.
