The Full Time Mental Health Specialist will work with Family Childcare specialists, providers and families to address the mental health and disability needs of children in the program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with providers, specialists and families to identify the mental health and disability needs of infants and children enrolled in Family Childcare.
  • Observe identified children in family childcare setting and occasionally in their home setting
  • Provide support and consultation to staff and providers for specialized screening of children for MH needs
  • Work with families to access services and support for children with mental health or disability needs. Offer support and guidance to parents whose children may need extra services
  • Provide consultation to provider and specialists on accommodating their environment and utilize strategies to engage and/or manage the child.
  • Make referrals for mental health services for children and/or their family members.
  • Familiarize CTI specialists and FCC providers on resources available to children and assist in initial use of services.
  • Collaborate with community mental health providers or EI providers regarding individual children’s concerns.
  • Participate in training staff on mental health for infants, toddlers and pre-school children.
  • Offer workshops or short trainings utilizing evidence-based curriculum to families to support them with the mental health needs of their child.
  • Provide individual consultations to staff
  • Co-facilitate crisis de-briefings
  • Provide crisis intervention and/or needed support in emergency situation
  • Complete prompt and thorough documentation for clinical work and consultation work.
  • In collaboration with Clinical Director and Workforce Development Managers, support planning and provide recommendations for staff development and training opportunities related to mental health, disabilities, and inclusion. Train staff on mental health/disability topics.
  • Participate in special projects related to inclusive practices and mental health
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field required.
  • 2+ years of experience working with families with infants, toddlers, or pre-school children. Preferably in a caregiving or educational environment.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with children with behavioral health challenges and their treatment protocols.
  • Experience working with low income, culturally diverse, and at-risk families who may be experiencing mental health or other challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass EEC Background check which includes fingerprinting
  • Must be able to show proof of MMR and recent physical
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.
  • Bilingual skills (English, Spanish, Khmer, Portuguese) preferred
  • Preferred training in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation.
