The full time School Age Mental Health Consultant is responsible for providing support to school age staff, leadership, and families regarding challenging behaviors, mental health conditions, and access to services for youth.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide short term consultation to parents on their child or family members needs for mental health or other support services.
  2. Provide social skills groups for identified children at multiple school age sites throughout the year, utilizing identified curriculum.
  3. Provide consultation to staff on accommodations for the care-giving environment and around specific behavioral health needs of children.
  4. Work with FSW and Site manager to facilitate smooth transitions for children with identified mental health needs.
  5. Assist in family navigation of complex services, in coordination with FSW.
  6. Make referrals for behavioral health services for children/family members in the program.
  7. Maintain on-going communication with school age staff regarding work with family, child.
  8. Collaborate with community MH providers regarding an identified child or family.
  9. Offer individual consultation to direct line staff.
  10. Provide crisis de-briefing to direct line staff.
  11. Oversee and support the implementation of the Strengths and Difficulties questionnaire for School age parents and/or children.
  12. Offer reflective Group Consultation to group leaders and assistant group leaders.
  13. Attend BHC meetings, CTI meetings and some community meetings.
  14. Complete prompt and thorough documentation for clinical work and consultation work.
  15. In collaboration with Clinical Director and Workforce Development Managers, support planning and provide recommendations for staff development and training opportunities related to mental health, disabilities, and inclusion. Train staff on mental health/disability topics.
  16. Participate in special projects related to inclusive practices and mental health.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completed Masters degree in Social work, mental health counseling, or guidance counseling.
  • Knowledge and experience working with children with behavioral health challenges and their treatment protocols.
  • Experience working with children ages 5-13 in school or care-giving environment.
  • Must be able to pass EEC Background check which includes fingerprinting
  • Must be able to show proof of MMR and recent physical
  • Experience working with low income, culturally diverse, and at-risk families who may be experiencing mental health or other challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.
  • Excellent crisis management skills and attention to detail.
