SUMMARY

The Maintenance and Reliability Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the maintenance and reliability department. This includes overall M&R performance, driving continuous improvement of the M&R process and plant equipment, managing the upkeep of all manufacturing and facility assets, managing maintenance budget and resources, and assisting with the design and installation of new equipment. This role manages the predictive and preventative maintenance programs and leads annual maintenance turnaround/shutdown for each business.

The maintenance and reliability manager develops a proactive maintenance process and oversees its organization, scheduling, and implementation while simultaneously leading, supervising and overseeing the maintenance personnel and various contractors to ensure the plant facilities and equipment are properly maintained and repaired to optimize plant operations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (Required):

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of operations maintenance and supervisory experience preferred, though may substitute 10+ years of experience for alternative degree or 15+ years of experience for non-degreed.
  • 10+ years of industrial experience in a chemical plant or other related industry experience. Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
  • Experience in and proficiency with Microsoft Software and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (i.e. Tab Ware, Maximo, SAP) required.
  • Experience implementing World Class Maintenance or a similar maintenance efficiency effort is greatly preferred.
  • Experience working and managing at a PSM site, along with PHA and MOC experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in managing a unionized workforce preferred.

Competencies-Skills – Role Specific (Required):

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and industrial equipment including but not limited to pumps, motors, valves, agitators / mixing vessels, condensers, vacuum systems, gas fired boilers, hot oil heating systems, pressure and high heat vessels, storage tanks, level / flow / pressure / temperature indicators and controllers, blowers, generators, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Must have strong ability and skill in troubleshooting / diagnosing process and equipment failures and weaknesses and be able to provide reasonable and accurate recommendations and solutions to problems.
  • Working knowledge of: precision maintenance techniques (Laser alignment, vibration analysis, etc.), WCM/TPM Maintenance practices & philosophy, state & federal regulations, and various codes.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean manufacturing knowledge and training a plus.

Responsibilities Include: (either directly or via reports)

  • Lead, plan, manage and execute Maintenance & Reliability (planned and unplanned) activities, including M&R staff and outside contractors, to ensure maximum equipment utilization and production optimization.
  • Drive compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements and foster an injury-free workplace by establishing high safety and housekeeping standards and managing M&R staff to those standards
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement by constantly optimizing and improving the overall M&R system performance via collaboration within the M&R department and with other functional areas.
  • Work in consultation with Operations, Engineering, and EHS Management to plan and coordinate M&R activities.
  • Lead development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, reliability initiatives, and industry best practices for mechanical and E/I equipment.
  • Drive root cause failure analysis of equipment failures and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Drive M&R team development, on an overall and individual basis.
  • Direct reports include: Maintenance Supervisor, Planner/Scheduler, and Reliability Engineer. Indirect reports include hourly Maintenance personnel (Mechanics, Instrument Technicians, Electricians and Laborers) across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts in a 24/7 operation.
