The contract is contingent upon contract award. 

Duties:
  • Assists in developing and implementing comprehensive media strategies and community outreach programs, while utilizing various forms of media to disseminate information to the public.
  • Supports the District’s public education efforts through development and execution of public awareness programs to support the mission and community relation initiatives as identified by the U.S. Attorney. 
  • Works independently to identify key community leaders (city, state, federal law enforcement, politically appointed officials, city and town mayors and religious leaders) and interact with them to further promote and develop plans of awareness and improvement.
  • Determines effective outreach methods to begin developmental programs through varying community work groups as directed by the U.S. Attorney and/or the District Management team.
  • Takes the initiative to conduct interviews, schedule meetings, coordinate and facilitate developments of various case-related and subject matter needs to establish productive timelines and deadlines for management team to execute.
  • Coordinates interactive working group meetings with court personnel, law enforcement staff, citizens, schools, county/city/state/federal agencies, religious organizations, community leaders and groups, to provide information and promote a positive image of the district.
  • Responds to the initial inquiries led by the U.S. Attorney and management team by taking the initiative to develop a work plan, respond via telephone or in person to accurately develop the ideas of the U.S. Attorney’s Office mission. 
  • Reviews city websites, daily and weekly newspapers for District related stories; maintains files of press articles and publications relating to the district and distributes to appropriate parties.
  • Prepares a variety of reports, articles, press releases, timing of events pertaining to the district’s involvement in the community and outreach activities. This includes addressing programs such as Drug Endangered Child; Drug Court and Drug Market Initiatives and others as directed by US Attorney to maintain visibility in and around surrounding areas. Act as spokesperson and primary media contact for the United States Attorney’s Office, to include the United States Attorney and all staff attorneys on any matter related to the Mission of the United State Attorney’s Office.

  • Independently and effectively coordinate collaborations between a varying group of community leaders to include religious, law enforcement and government officials of all levels (city, state, federal)
  • Type at a speed and error free rate necessary for successful job performance.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work while working cooperatively with others.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid and appropriate Rhode Island driver’s license or ability to use a District approved means of transportation to travel to various locations. 
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Possession of a graduate level degree is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel and operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear and to occasionally lift and carry records and documents typically weighing less than 20 pounds.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
MENTAL DEMANDS
  • While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents.
