Special Education Teacher

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks a highly qualified and skillful SPECIAL EDUCATION EXCEPTIONAL CHILD SERVICES (ECS) AND ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) TEACHER to join our community of educators, students, and stakeholders. Under the direction of the school principal and/or appropriate special education administrator, the special educator will instruct functional daily living skills and coordinate services for students with moderate to severe language, learning, behavioral, and/or social skills deficiencies consistent with their Individual Educational Programs (IEPs). The ECS teacher will carry the responsibility of educating children with disabilities who are diagnosed with a number of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.
The ECS teacher works with legally required federal paperwork called an IEP, or Individualized Educational Plan, that outlines the necessary supports, accommodations, and goals for an individual child. These goals can encompass both academic and behavioral concerns.
Responsibilities:
- Administer appropriate district curriculum aligned with Rhode Island State Standards.
- Instruct functional daily living skills to students with moderate to severe disabilities.
- Coordinate services for students with diverse needs, collaborating with other educators and specialists.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Assess student progress regularly and make adjustments to instruction as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student progress and concerns.
