General Summary: Responsible for effectively leading drafting-design teams or working independently on assigned development or production design drawings including validation of project schedules. Develops design drawings in accordance with Alkar design/drafting standards, practices and quality specifications to ensure customer satisfaction.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Prepares design drawings including approval drawings, assembly and detail fabrication drawings of equipment within the contract scope while meeting customer needs.
  • Performs field surveys when necessary to ensure designed system will fit the customer’s manufacturing area structure. Coordinates survey findings with drawings/layouts as well as project engineers and the various trades on the project.
  • Makes and implements design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or product quality issues.
  • Understands and applies Alkar design/drafting standards and practices, quality system procedures and other standards/procedures as appropriate to the design function.
  • Works in coordination with project engineers to complete preliminary, and manufacturing release, design reviews.
  • Works closely and communicates with project engineers and other appropriate parties to resolve design issues, change orders and approvals.
  • May represent Alkar in matters of coordination and technical assistance related to the detail design drawing aspect of the project.
  • Provides and/or assists in the training and development of co-workers on design teams.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by Drafting Manager.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Two year associate degree in Technology Management or Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).
  • Proficiency in latest computerized design applications (e.g. AutoCad Mechanical/Inventor software).
  • Minimum of two years experience in manufacturing related design work (approval, assembly and detailed fabrication drawings).
  • Good analytical and problem solving, verbal and written communication skills along with interpersonal and leadership skills to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively check all drawings prior to submittal to customers or manufacturing.
